Hello! My name is McClain and I'm currently the Oklahoma State Athletics beat writer for 247Sports and GoPokes247. In this role, I cover Oklahoma State football, basketball and other sports, attending practices and games to give readers the best stories and coverage possible. I make sure to stay on top of both current athletes and teams in Stillwater, but also be the leading voice for Oklahoma State recruiting coverage, namely in football and basketball.
Before moving to Oklahoma, I spent a year and a half covering UGA and Athens-area high school football recruiting for the Athens Banner-Herald, a paper in the USAToday/Gannett network. In this role, I talked with elite football players from across the country for feature stories on their recruitment and wrote analysis pieces on the state of UGA recruiting at different points. The bulk of my time was spent reporting on the Athens-area football scene, covering the college recruitment of players from various levels at the 15 schools in and around Athens.
Prior to my time in the Classic City, I interned with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that summer and assisted in coverage in several professional sports across metro Atlanta, including the Atlanta Hawks' run to the Eastern Conference Finals and Braves outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. suffering a season-ending injury. Before that I spent five years in Statesboro, Georgia covering Georgia Southern Athletics for various outlets (The Savannah Morning News, The George-Anne student newspaper, The Walton Tribune). During my time with the student newspaper, I served as Editor-In-Chief, Managing Editor, Sports Editor and Sports Reporter.
I appreciate you taking the time to view my portfolio. Please reach out with any questions or comments you may have.
